Earlier this afternoon, there was an accident on I-15 in the Lindon area. Northbound I-15 is currently closed and freeway and arterial roads are all experiencing significant delays. This road closure will impact busing throughout the district. We anticipate delays at multiple schools, including activity buses. All routes will be completed, but it is unknown how long this will take.
Thank you Hawk Walk Sponsors - because of the generosity of our families and our sponsors EVERY student will be bringing home a Hawk Walk t-shirt today! Every student will receive a STANDARD Race Kit. This DOES include a water bottle - ALL Water Bottles are being kept in the classrooms and will be handed out just before the race on Friday - this is to ensure that none are forgotten at home.
Parents - if your students shirt is too big/little - new, non-decorated shirts can be exchanged for a different size either Wednesday or Thursday morning before school. Mrs. Harker will be available to make those exchanges at the front of the school near the flag pole.

Today is your last day to pay for Race Kits and purchase upgraded SWAG. Kits will be sent home tomorrow so that students have time to decorate their shirts.

Recess was a little extra fun today. Some of the football players and cheerleaders from Lone Peak came to P.L.A.Y. The students gor to I react with them and of course collect reading cards from them. We enjoy having these "big kids" come to our school each fall.

Hawk Walk Update: What a jump in donations!! We are now over $5,000 and students have earned an Eras Dress Up Day, Bring a Stuffed Animal to School AND Popsicles at Recess!!!
Our Lead Singer is Team Blue (70s)! Backup Singer Green (80s) is close behind and our Yellow Ensemble (60s) takes the chorus . Check the board at the entry each day to see which colored Hawk Rocker is on top.

Hawk Walk Update: Thank you for your support! We've earned the eras dress up days and are closing in on the opportunity to bring a stuffed animal friend to school (this will happen the week of October 6th). To track which "era" is in the lead, we have colored microphones for Happy the Hawk to hold. He'll be holding the current leader color each morning. Today that honor goes to our blue team which is the 70s era! Way to go 70s!!
We often get asked a lot about the Hawk Walk, so each day we'll also share an important Hawk Walk Fact. Today we are sharing how the funds for the Hawk Walk are spent. The funds are used to support the PTA, the Classes, and our School. Check out the graphic for details.

As we get ready to kick off the 2025 Hawk Walk tomorrow, here's a look back at last year's school goal purchase in action. Last year we chose to install two benches in the large back playground, and an additional "buddy bench" was donated to our school. These benches have been not only great places for kids to sit - they have indeed served their intended purpose to allow a place for students looking for a new friend to play with to make connections. We love seeing the kindness of our students as they look out for others and invite others to play or simply share a bench.
Our school cafeteria offers a hot breakfast for students each morning. The daily menu is different to offer a variety of options for students. For those students arriving early at school, this could be a breakfast options. Breakfast is served from 7:30-7:55AM. Last week ended with some school spirit, fun Friday activities, and creative arcade games by Mrs. Lewis' class. We are looking forward this week to our PTA meeting, acadience (reading) testing, and the highlight of the week our Hawk Walk kick-off this coming Friday.
As a reminder - there is no school tomorrow in observance of Labor Day.

Each Friday we show our school spirit by wearing Highland Hawks gear. You can wear any Highland t-shirt you have. If you don't have a Highland t-shirt yet, wear our Highland colors of blue, green, and gray. Let's flood the school with spirit every Friday this school year!

During the summer we had a very generous donation of books made to Highland. We want to thank the family and friends of Mrs. Boley for their contribution to reading at our school. Read the wonderful letter shared by her ward with the donation.
We are asking parents/volunteers/visitors to please follow our school dress code when coming to be at the school. Just as with students, we ask that visitors not wear anything distracting or revealing so as not to distract from student learning. We expect adults in the building to be examples to students in following the guidelines given by the district.
These are great reminders of dress code standards for students as well. If shoulder straps are regularly falling down or shorts are requiring frequent adjustment or tugging, they might not be right for wearing to school where we move and play all day.
PLEASE make sure your child is wearing good athletic shoes on their PE specialty day. We ask this to ensure they are able to play the games and move safely.

We have several restaurant coupons that have been left at the office. One of them is the remainder of the Waffle Love summer reading cards. The others are expiring at the end of the month. If you would be able to use any of them, please pick them up at the office or let us know and we can send them home with a student.
